Since 1999, I have been serving the community through group work, community organizing and activism. In 2008 after returning to school to earn a masters in social work degree (MSW), I began working with Transgender/Gender Variant community members in a one-on-one clinical setting. I bring to my practice, not only my professional clinical education, but my personal experience as a out-and-proud woman of transgender experience.

The Freedman Center for Clinical Social Work, founded in 1994 by Diane E. Freedman, PhD, LCSW, is a group psychotherapy practice serving the mental, emotional and spiritual needs of Long Islanders.  The centers clinical approach is client-centered and we achieve this through an empathic presence that creates a safe space for addressing the problems of the individual, couple or family.

We believe every person has the capacity to live a happy, healthy life.  Every individual possesses innate strengths to overcome adversity, trauma and stress.  Many of us need the appropriate support and guidance in order to achieve that end.  The Freedman Center's clinicians are licensed social workers who are trained to help clients identify patterns, stressors and traumas that lead to emotional distress and ineffective coping.

Donna B. Riley is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).  She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University (SUNY), where she is currently studying for her doctorate in Social Welfare.

Donna’s perspective of therapy is as diverse as the community that she serves.  Her work with individuals is geared to strengthen their sense of self.

She works with couples and families to help them create greater intimacy and connection with one another.  She also facilitates peer support groups and small intimate therapeutic groups. Her keen focus on marginalized communities has Donna in great demand as a lecturer and presenter at conferences, universities and health and human service organizations.
